. >> welcome back to "hardball." late today the "washington post" reports, in fact, just did, the white house was preparing to send lethal weaponry to the syrian opposition. earlier today president obama seemed to be trying to slow the rush to war by some on the right. almost in lockstep, by the way, the hawks and the neocons have argued we must take some kind of military action in syria or else risk looking squeamish to the iranians. it's a dangerous line of thinking, i think, especially because there are so few good options available in sere wra. create a no-fly zone. that could be costy and potentially a risky operation. arm the rebels? we may be doing that now. who exactly are the rebels? "the new york times" reported over the weekend, for example, the overwhelming strength of the fighting force is made up of the most extreme groups. some of whom have ties to al qae qaeda. do we give them weapons? what option does that leave us in the united states? what does that end up being? a treaty, perhaps? bashar al assad in russia? both those outcomes seem unlikely. the war drums are out there. ca
